2007 was, arguably, the strangest year of college football in the past decade. It featured several different number one teams, and a Border War game between Kansas and Missouri with National Championship implications. Boston College and South Florida both rose to be ranked #2 IN THE COUNTRY for at least one week during the season. This naturally favored Les Miles, as eventual National Champion, LSU, stood atop the pile of chaos with two double overtime losses, to Kentucky and Arkansas. Meanwhile, three traditional powers turned in horrible seasons. Top 5 Michigan lost a game to I-AA Appalachian State. The next week they lost to Oregon in a blowout at home. Nebraska, which had won the Big XII North in 2006, were defenestrated by USC at home 49-31, trailed Oklahoma State 38-0 at halftime on Homecoming before losing 45-14, lost to Kansas 76-39 and closed the season by losing to Colorado in spite of scoring 51 points (the Buffaloes scored 65). Alabama lost to Louisiana-Monroe in Nick Saban's debut season. Meanwhile, Notre Dame won fewer than four games for the first time since 1963. Their losses included a depantsing at Michigan and a loss to the U.S. Naval Academy. Notre Dame had not lost to the Academy since 1963. Two years later, the puppet wranglers at houserockbuilt published a video about the series with Navy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pX1alEHInvs

Containing the refrain '07 Never Happened'. And thus a meme was born.
